Cardi B (real name Belcalis Almanzar born October 11, 1992 in Bronx, New York) is a singer, songwriter, and former stripper of Dominican / Trinidadian descent. She is part of the cast of Love and Hip Hop. The nickname Cardi is short for Bacardi (like the rum!) - a testament to her Caribbean heritage.

Cardi dropped out of college and began stripping at age 18, though she has since retired from the profession. One of the reasons she started stripping was to avoid domestic violence.

Cardi B’s celebrity started long before she was cast in Love and Hip Hop. The former stripper used her social media profiles (Mainly Instagram) to drop videos speaking the truth about her life experiences with absolutely no filter. Her honesty has garnered her hundreds of thousands of followers and collectively her 30 second videos have gone viral with millions of views. It was a no brainer for Mona Scott to giver her a roll on the show.

After making a career out of her Instagram account and starring in the current season of Love & Hip Hop New York, Cardi B drops her first edition of Gangsta Bitch Music, free of charge. “Giving my fans this project for free is important to me, so they have no excuses to hear real sh*t!” says Cardi. “People have no other choice than to take my music seriously.”

Her opening statement to the rap world is an ode to “gangsta b*tches” worldwide and offers all of the grit, sex appeal and sass her online legion of faithful followers live for.Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1 plays into the trope of woman empowerment, using humor, sarcasm and braggadocio to convey feminist messages of independence and monetary gain. The 17-track project boasts production by Swift on Demand, Shaft, James SwanQo, Sean Allen, Josh Xantus and BMC Beats.
