"Music is emotional. Your job is to make people feel something. The best way to do that is to sing and speak from something they've personally been through. That's where I write from," Amber ‘Sevyn' Streeter says. The 26-year-old has already lent her pen to tracks for an elite roster of R&B players including Chris Brown, Brandy, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys and Estelle. Raised outside of Orlando in the close-knit city of Haines City, Streeter -- like so many of the greats before her -- cultivated her voice in church as a young girl finding inspiration from already iconic voices in gospel, R&B and pop. When asked who influenced her the most, she lights up as she quickly rattles off an impressive list: Yolanda Adams, the Clark Sisters, Kim Burrell, the Winans Family, Micheal Jackson, Celine Dion, Brandy and, naturally, Whitney Houston.
Songwriter and vocalist Amber Streeter (aka Ambee, Se7en, Sevyn) was the first member of TG4, a pop-R&B outfit put together by Chris Stokes (Immature, B2K). In 2002, the group released a single, "Virginity," that reached number 88 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. An album was recorded and shelved, and the group split. Streeter caught the attention of producer Rich Harrison (Amerie, Beyoncé), who asked her to join RichGirl, yet another group that released one minor hit ("24's") and recorded a shelved album.
Once that group dissolved, Streeter established herself as a songwriter for Chris Brown (including "Yeah 3X," "Wet the Bed," and "Strip"), Kelly Rowland ("Keep It Between Us"), Estelle ("International"), Brandy ("Slower"), and Alicia Keys ("New Day" and "Limitedless")
Following the release of Chris Brown's Fortune (2012), Se7en has been featured on the album as Sevyn (removing the number "7", and adding a "v" and "y" instead). Se7en changed her stage name to Sevyn Streeter. On October 30, 2012, she released her debut single "I Like It", and premiered the music video for the song on BET's 106 & Park on January 4, 2013 in Los Angeles, California, and on May 22, 2013, she released her second single "It Won't Stop". On June 24, 2013, Streeter released an acoustic performance video for her second single "It Won't Stop". On August 28, 2013, Streeter released the remix to her second single "It Won't Stop" featuring Chris Brown. The music video for the remix premiered on BET's 106 & Park on October 10, 2013 and was directed by Chris Brown himself and he also appears in the video along with NBA player Dorell Wright as Sevyn's love interest. Sevyn's debut EP entitled Call Me Crazy, But..., was released on December 3, 2013. The EP debuted on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at No. 5 with 17,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
In 2015, Streeter released the first single called "Don't Kill the Fun" featuring Chris Brown from her upcoming debut album. Also, Streeter recorded a song for the Furious 7: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack called "How Bad Do You Want It (Oh Yeah)". The soundtrack album was released on March 17, 2015. The song samples the Aero Chord's Festival Trap Remix of Ultra Music's duo Bang La Decks' 2013 single "Utopia". On April 28, 2015, Sevyn Streeter released the second single from her debut album titled "4th Street". The music video was released simultaneously with the single.
In July 2015, Streeter released the first of two planned EPs ahead of On the Verge, titled Shoulda Been There, Pt. 1. The set features "Don't Kill the Fun" as well as the title track, featuring B.o.B.
