Apple reportedly lands music deal with Cash Money Records

Apple Music is making a "power move" with the popular rap and hip-hop record label, according to Cash Money's co-founder.

Apple has inked a music partnership with Cash Money Records, a record label focusing on rap and hip-hop.

The partnership was announced over the weekend by Bryan "Birdman" Williams, the record label's co-founder, in an Instagram postthat showed him posing with Apple music executive Larry Jackson.

"It's official...Cash Money makes a power move with Apple Music," Birdman's Instagram post said, according to MusicBusinessWorldwide, which first reported the news.

The nature of the arrangement was not immediately clear, and no financial details were offered. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Exclusivity is currently the name of the game for streaming-music services looking to stand out amid a growing array of online music providers. Apple and other companies hope that exclusivity clauses with popular artists could sway customers away from their Spotify and Pandora accounts

Apple is no stranger to Cash Money Records' prominent music artists, which include Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Tyga. Drake's most recent album, "Views," made its global streaming debut on Apple's Beats 1 radio in April.

Apple is also reportedly in talks to purchase Tidal, the subscription streaming-music service co-owned by Jay Z, Beyonce and Kanye West.
